El campeonato de MotoGP reached another decisive turn at Phillip Island, where Marc Márquez won the Sprint and Jorge Martín saw his participation in Sunday's race put at risk after a fall in the first eight laps. The victory allows the Ducati rider to extend his lead to ten points, with 365 units against Martín's 355, at a circuit that will host the final MotoGP race of its history this weekend.
Un duelo intenso hasta la caída de Martín
Márquez and Martín fought for the lead during the opening eight laps of the thirteen-lap Sprint under cloudy skies in Australia. The Aprilia rider was attempting to overtake Márquez when he lost control and crashed. He was immediately taken to the circuit's medical center, where he remained under observation to determine whether he would be fit enough to start the main race on Sunday.
With Martín out of the contest, Márquez managed the gap and crossed the finish line first to secure his 24th victory in Sprint format. Álex Márquez completed the podium for Ducati, while Fabio Di Giannantonio advanced from eighth place to finish third, giving the Italian manufacturer a one-two-three sweep.
Marco Bezzecchi, riding an Aprilia, finished fourth, ahead of KTM's Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder, Aprilia's Ai Ogura, Yamaha's Jack Miller, Honda's Diogo Moreira and Ducati's Iker Lecuona. The result places extra weight on the remaining points because Sunday's Grand Prix will be MotoGP's last race at Phillip Island.
- Marc Márquez: 365 puntos y primero en el campeonato.
- Jorge Martín: 355 puntos y segundo, pendiente de su estado físico.
- Álex Márquez: segundo en el Sprint.
- Fabio Di Giannantonio: tercero, tras largar octavo.
- Phillip Island: el domingo será la última carrera de MotoGP en el trazado.
The championship had alternated between Márquez and Martín over the preceding weeks, but the Sprint result gives the Ducati rider breathing room at the right moment. Martín's possible return remains the central uncertainty before the final race at the Australian venue, where every point could have a decisive effect on the title fight.
For the fans, the weekend offers a clear tension: Márquez arrives in Australia with the strongest numerical advantage, while Martín will need to recover physically and mentally after the fall. The last race at Phillip Island will thus be decided not only by speed, but also by the ability to withstand the pressure of a close championship and a farewell to a historic circuit.
